Mexico City - Wow what a city. We flew in, Mariana and I with Mariana's mother Raquel. My old companion Nathanael Dardon took us to the airport. On the first flight we sat next to Tawnya Davis. When we arrived we were with Janet Mckeen's sister.
It was August 25th, Mariana's birthday, just in time for a fiesta with the family of Mariana's uncle Jorge and Lupe, and the family of Mariana's aunt Ruth and Vitto. Family photo slide shows occupied us until well into the night.
Tuesday we flew to Monterrey in the north of Mexico, comparatively more like the U.S. I worked, Raquel and Mariana went to a glass museum/factory (museo de vitrio). We took a canal boat ride and saw museums of history and art.
I got sick, so back in D.F. (Districto Federal) we spent time at Mariana's Aunt Ruth and Uncle Vitto's.
Saturday was Jarla's (10) (Mariana's cousin Ragnar's daughter) First Communion. We attended the ceremony and the party at Jorge's house all afternoon, evening and into the night. It gave us the chance to meet many of Mariana's more extended relatives.
Sunday we took the metro (people and more people!) to church. We saw Bishop and Sister Carbajal. He has been Bishop for much of Mariana's life (when she was baptized and when she went on a mission).
We visited more with Jorge's family. Monday we packed up and flew out!
