Copper Mine

For memorial weekend, we decided to visit the biggest man-made hole on the earth. The mine is so big that it can be seen by space shuttle astronauts as they pass over the United States. Kennecott Utah Copper Mine has exhibits featuring everything from mining artifacts and model trucks to the modern day operations and approach to environmental engineering. Bingham Canyon Mine not only has copper but also has gold and silver. The processing of ore was very interesting. Kennecott Mine produces 55,000,000 tons of copper a year; it has 11 giant electric shovels and 70 gigantic haulage trucks.

Second Anniversary

April 18th was our Second Anniversary. The day was beautiful and we decided to celebrate it walking where we took our engagement pictures. This time we took a tripod instead of a photographer.

El 18 abril era nuestro segundo anniversario. El dia era hermoso y decidimos celebrarlo caminando por donde tomamos nuestras fotos de comprometimiento. Esta vez tomamos un tripie en lugar de un camarografo.

Disneyland ??

This is an Orthodox Cathedral at Red Square - originally "Beautiful Square". The Russian words for beautiful and red are very close, thus it is called Red Square. Called that long before political changes of the 1900s.

!Viva la Mexico!

Mexico City - Wow what a city. We flew in, Mariana and I with Mariana's mother Raquel. My old companion Nathanael Dardon took us to the airport. On the first flight we sat next to Tawnya Davis. When we arrived we were with Janet Mckeen's sister.

It was August 25th, Mariana's birthday, just in time for a fiesta with the family of Mariana's uncle Jorge and Lupe, and the family of Mariana's aunt Ruth and Vitto. Family photo slide shows occupied us until well into the night.

Tuesday we flew to Monterrey in the north of Mexico, comparatively more like the U.S. I worked, Raquel and Mariana went to a glass museum/factory (museo de vitrio). We took a canal boat ride and saw museums of history and art.

I got sick, so back in D.F. (Districto Federal) we spent time at Mariana's Aunt Ruth and Uncle Vitto's.

Saturday was Jarla's (10) (Mariana's cousin Ragnar's daughter) First Communion. We attended the ceremony and the party at Jorge's house all afternoon, evening and into the night. It gave us the chance to meet many of Mariana's more extended relatives.

Sunday we took the metro (people and more people!) to church. We saw Bishop and Sister Carbajal. He has been Bishop for much of Mariana's life (when she was baptized and when she went on a mission).

We visited more with Jorge's family. Monday we packed up and flew out!

Alfonso's Visit, Graduation and Diana and babies

We had a wonderful visit with Alfonso who came out for Mariana's graduation ceremony.

Diana, Hannah and Katie joined us to see Mariana walk and made dough for a graduation pizza dinner.

Poor Alfonso after walking all day around campus, the next day we hiked Ensign peak then didn't stop until we'd seen almost the whole of Temple Square. What a fun visit!
